JRA Day!

Saturday was an annual event in our town called Jarratt Recreational Association Day (JRA Day).   I'm telling you what the JRA stands for because when I first moved here everyone kept saying that JRA Day was coming up but no one explains what it stands for or what its meant to do!  From what everyone says it used to always be on July 4th but they have since moved it to an earlier date due to the hot weather.  The crowds have gotten a lot smaller over the years so the event isn't as big as it used to be but I thought there was a great turnout this weekend.

There were all kinds of fun things going on for the kids and food was sold to raise money for the Jarratt Recreational Association.  They provide recreational opportunities for the children in the Jarratt community and are responsible for the upkeep of the baseball/softball field.  JRA Day starts off with a parade around the town of Jarratt and ends up back at the baseball field where the festivities take place. In all of the hustle and bustle of getting Kellan fed, dressed, changed, and packed up for a day at the park, we missed the parade!  So I'm really sad that I don't have any pictures of that to share.  I saw several of the floats afterwards and the baseball teams did a really good job decorating!  They all looked so cute in their baseball uniforms.
I've mentioned before that Michael is a volunteer fire fighter for the Jarratt Volunteer Fire Department and I am the Secretary for the Jarratt Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  The Ladies Auxiliary had a tent selling baked goods and snow cones to raise money for our organization.  I made 2 strawberry pies and 3 sweet potato pies to sell.

Sweet Potato pies I made for the Bake Sale.

Strawberry pies I made for the Bake Sale.

This is what was going on in the other room while mommy was baking!

Grandma Gigi and Kellan out at the ballpark!

Muffins, cupcakes, cookies and brownies...

Cakes and pies...
The big hit...SNOWCONES!

Our friends' Bracey and Kevin's little baby Makinley taking a nap during all of the excitement!

It was somebody else's naptime too!
There is a pageant to crown Little Miss JRA...one contest for the younger girls...
And one for the older girls.
The bouncy houses are always a favorite!
Hayrides pulled by the tractor!
Firetrucks spraying the kids!
And a whole day of t-ball and baseball games!

Kellan and Daddy relaxing under the tent.
Emily entertaining Kellan while he tries to grab her nose!

Its hard to imagine that next year Kellan is going to be one of those "big kids" running around!
